Australian Museum - Project Discover

Public Buildings and Sporting Facilities

OVERVIEW

Project Discover at the Australian Museum showcases a harmonious blend of heritage preservation and modern design. The 2020 redesign offers a fresh way to experience Australia's first museum, with enhanced sight lines that improve wayfinding and reveal hidden sandstone heritage features. The striking new stair, inspired by Escher’s geometry, elegantly unites varying floor levels, adding a playful element to vertical movement. Cloaking and public amenities have been thoughtfully integrated into the original basement, while new member and education spaces are located in the Parkes Farmer wing.
